Memories of Czechoslovakia

I am hoping to record my memories of the time I spent in Czechoslovakia undergoing treatment for polio which I had contracted 2 years earlier. As a starting point I have added the only pictures taken of me during my stay. These were taken when I arrived, the only time my Dad was able to visit, (international cheap travel was way in the future and there was an Iron Curtain between us!) and when I was photographed on the ward for a newspaper article.

I was in at least two hospitals. One was in Prague. The other was in Janske Lazne. Many years later I recognized the hospital from a photograph in a book on Czech Spa Towns. I visited the town in 1988 whilst taking part in a white water kayaking race nearby and we took a few pictures.

Janske Lazne also features on the web site of the Czech Polio Association http://www.polio.cz/English.html whose opening page shows the view I had from my bedroom window.

My mother kept a lot of the correspondence and newspaper cuttings about my stay. It helps to show some of the background about how I came to be there. There are a few more to be added.
