The Paddle as a Lever

Most of these pictures were taken some time ago when I was more interested in Slalom and White Water Paddling than Flat water racing. I was as surprised as anybody by the results. I had expected that there would be a lot more slippage of the paddle through the water than there was. So you now know your pulling hand goes forward during forward paddling.

Each picture is held in 3 different sizes. Click on an image to enter a Slide Show and then on a slide show image to get a 1500x980 image.

The pictures were taken a standard SLR on a tripod using a "B" (Bulb) exposure and a standard flash gun that allowed me to discharge it at 1/16 of its maximum power. I used the test button on the flash-gun to get the flash which gave me about 5 flashes on each charge. It took a bit of practice to tremble the trigger evenly and a lot of patience from the paddlers.
